From Dusty Old Loft to Stylish New Flat: A Transformation Story
When we were approached to transform the first-floor loft of a 100-year-old bakery into a self-contained flat, we knew it would be a project with character. The space was a dusty, neglected storage room, tucked away above the bakery, untouched for decades. It was the perfect canvas to create something truly special.
The client wanted a seamless experience, so our Planner took the lead, handling all the necessary paperwork and administration with the Local Authority. This ensured that every legal requirement was met without any hassle for the client, allowing them to focus on the exciting parts of the project.
As we began the work, it became clear that the years had not been kind to the space. Wood and timber rot had set in after years of neglect, leaving very little that could be salvaged. The loft needed a full overhaul, so we stripped everything back to the raw brick. The London bricks, once dusty and dull, were painstakingly cleaned to reveal their natural warmth and texture. This gave the flat a rustic charm, creating a welcoming, cosy atmosphere with a sense of history.
Throughout the process, the client was fully in control of the design, aesthetics, and colour choices. Every detail, from the layout to the final finishes, was tailored to their vision. The result? A beautifully crafted, self-contained flat that retains the charm of the old bakery, but with a modern, comfortable twist.
